PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project aims to examine how Soviet repressions are remembered in post-multi-colonial post-Soviet spaces and countries post-dependent to the Soviet Union. The main research question is how Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine and the war that has been going on for over two years updates the memory of Soviet repressions, influences its transformation and is used in the process of decolonization of the communities of the studied countries from the influence of the Russian Federation.
The project assumes that post-Soviet spaces and post-dependent spaces to the Soviet Union are areas where different cultural, religious, discursive and aesthetic patterns of remembering the past are applied, there are different memory policies, and different religious denominations influence the shape of memory in these regions. There are different models of living with the dead, as well as various global trends shape this memory. Moreover, these spaces that were once in the so-called sphere of Soviet influence, are currently parts of other geopolitical systems and dependencies that also influence the attitude of these societies towards the past.
