Wymagania:

1. Required: doctoral degree in biology or closely related discipline.
2. Required: a proven publication record in the biological sciences, with particular emphasis on work in the topic of microbiology.
3. Experience in collecting environmental samples (soil and plant tissues) under field conditions. The sampling process is critical to the results of field experiments and determines the validity of the study.
4. Experience in molecular biology methods, including isolation of environmental DNA, PCR, preparation and quantification of DNA libraries for MiSeq sequencing. Good laboratory skills are important to maintain the high quality of results obtained.
5. Bioinformatics skills are welcome.
6. Proficiency in performing statistical analyses (including e.g. ANOVA, ANOSIM) and data interpretation. Computational skills will be required to manage large datasets, including taxonomic data.
7. Experience in writing scientific publications and presenting scientific research.
8. Interpersonal communication, time management and organisational skills.
9. Fluency in spoken and written English.
10. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work in a team and be highly motivated in research activities.

Opis zadań:

We are offering a position as a research assistant professor (post-doc type) in an international research grant funded by Biodiversa+ and the National Science Centre (NCN) under the BiodivNBS competition. The candidate must meet the requirements for post-docs by NCN in particular: (i) a PhD degree awarded no earlier than seven years before the start date of the project (this deadline may be extended in the case of breaks in academic career according to NCN guidelines), (ii) post-docs must not simultaneously draw a salary under another employment contract.

The successful candidate will be involved in research on the taxonomic and functional biodiversity of microorganisms inhabiting saline areas, the role of microorganisms in plant growth and development, etc. The main objective of the project is to improve the functioning of saline ecosystems through proper plant breeding, ecological engineering and the use of functional diversity of microorganisms and plants. Achieving these goals relies on close collaboration between experienced multidisciplinary research groups from 8 partner institutions in 6 countries, with a wide range of scientific and technological expertise, from plant physiology, botany and ecology, plant and insect behaviour, microbial diversity, landscape and biodiversity mapping to spatial land use modelling and economics, information technology (IT), policy and environmental research.

Key responsibilities include:

1) The post-doc will be responsible for e.g.: developing the theoretical aspects of the project, collecting plant and soil samples at the test sites, analysing the samples collected for soil and microbiological parameters, analysing the microbiome of the samples collected, studying the functional diversity of the microorganisms.
2) Part of her/his role will be to compile and analyse the data obtained.
3) The successful candidate will analyse and present the obtained research results in the form of scientific publications.
4) In addition, co-supervision of students and/or PhD students will be a primary responsibility.


Skills/qualifications:

• PhD in biology or related discipline (PhD must be obtained prior to commencement of work),
• A publication record in a microbiology topic,
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.


Preferred qualifications:
• Knowledge of and experience with laboratory techniques used in the analysis of microorganisms, including microbiome analysis, physiological activity of microorganisms.
• Skills and experience in statistical and bioinformatics methods.
• Written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.

We offer:

The total remuneration package amounts to PLN 140,000 gross per annum, which includes all associated costs, including comprehensive social and health insurance. Approximate remuneration of PLN 7,300.00 net/month.
Contract duration: 2 years, with the option to extend for an additional year based on performance evaluation.
