The successful candidate should hold a doctoral degree in Condensed Matter Physics, Theoretical Chemistry or Materials Physics (Theory). In addition to a solid knowledge of quantum mechanics and solid-state physics, a good understanding of electronic structure theory and magnetism is required. Proficiency with an electronic structure code (preferably VASP or RSPt) or with the usage of effective spin Hamiltonians is required. Prior experience with the theory of intra- or inter-atomic exchange coupling is an advantage. Research projects and theses focused on electronic structure calculations, statistical physics, or many-body physics will be considered an asset. A good track of scientific publications in journals of good reputation is required. Proficiency in English, preferably accompanied by international experience, is required. The candidate should be able to work both independently and as part of a research team.

Keywords: rare-earth elements, density-functional theory, exchange interaction, magnetism

Opis zadań:

Key responsibilities will include:
1. employing ab-initio electronic structure theory to determine the inter-atomic exchange coupling in selected rare-earth compounds;
2. developing adequate spin models to understand the emergence of spin spirals and helical states in selected rare-earth compounds;
3. developing many-body models to understand the spectroscopic signatures of the devil staircase in CeSb;
4. contributing to theoretical development, software implementation, or numerical simulations, depending on the candidate's background and inclinations;
5. actively collaborating with other project members and international partners;
6. disseminating research results through journal articles and conference presentations.
