Description:
The person applying for the above-mentioned position should meet the requirements of Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, as amended).
Candidate’s profile.
We are looking for a Ph.D. who will work in the NCN OPUS project “Development and characterization of novel multitargeted organometallic tubulin polymerization inhibitors for enhancing the effectiveness of anticancer therapies”
1. The candidate must hold a doctoral degree in the field of chemical or biological sciences. The doctoral degree must have been obtained within the last 7 years counting back from 01.01.2026.
This period may be extended by the time spent, within that period, on long-term (over 90 days) documented sickness benefits or rehabilitation benefits in connection with incapacity for work. In addition, this period may be extended by the number of months spent on leaves related to the care and upbringing of children, granted under the rules laid down in the Labour Code, and, in the case of women intending to enter the competition, by 18 months for each child born or adopted, if such a manner of indicating breaks in the scientific career is more favorable. The above period may not be shortened or further extended by the organizer of the competition. As a mandatory requirement, the doctoral degree must have been obtained at an institution other than the University of Łódź.
2. The candidate must have experience in experimental biology, in particular in:
• experience in maintaining cell cultures, predominantly of stable cell lines
• experience in designing experiments and interpreting results obtained using flow cytometry
• experience in designing and performing cellular functional assays (including, inter alia, assessment of antiproliferative activity and viability, apoptosis detection, and cell cycle analysis)
• experience in performing basic biochemical analyses
• experience in the analysis of biological data (including results of cellular assays and in vitro and/or in vivo experiments)
as well as a good command of the English language, spoken and written, sufficient for fluent scientific communication and the preparation of scientific publications.
The experience must be documented by scientific publications (copies/links to publications must be attached to the application documents).
Given the scope of tasks in the project, the following will be considered an asset:
• experience in structure–activity relationship (SAR) studies using antiproliferative assays for series of compounds
• practical experience in assessing the impact of organic/organometallic substituents on the biological activity of compounds in cancer and normal cell lines (in vitro models)
• experience in working with three-dimensional cell culture models (3D cultures, spheroids/organoids)
• experience in conducting in vivo studies on the biological activity of compounds (animal models).
Lack of experience in some of the areas listed above does not exclude an application, provided that the remaining requirements are met.
The candidate must have documented experience in presenting research results (lectures and oral conference presentations).
Scope of tasks in the project:
The responsibilities of the person employed in the postdoctoral position shall in particular include:
• planning and carrying out screening studies of the antiproliferative activity of the investigated compounds in cell lines, for the purpose of determining structure–activity relationships (SAR) for individual series of compounds
• analysing the effect of the presence and type of organic/organometallic group on the biological activity of the synthesised compounds in in vitro models, using cancer and normal cell lines
• conducting studies of the activity of selected compounds in three-dimensional cell culture models (3D cultures, including spheroids/organoids), including optimisation of culture conditions and selection of functional assays
• participation in the planning and implementation of in vivo studies assessing the effect of the organometallic moiety on the biological activity of selected compounds, in cooperation with the team carrying out experiments in animal models
• processing and critical analysis of the results obtained (including statistical and graphical presentation of the data) and their interpretation in the context of the assumed project objectives
• preparation of manuscripts of scientific publications, conference presentations and reports on the implementation of project tasks, as well as active cooperation with the chemistry and biology teams participating in the project.
Renumeration: ca. 9 682,95 PLN gross/month PLN gross/month, (140 000 zł PLN year, gross per year)

• work in an interdisciplinary team (chemists and biologists) at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Łódź
• access to modern research equipment and support from specialists in the field of synthesis and biological studies
• the possibility of participating in scientific conferences and co-authoring publications in journals with a high impact factor.
