Wymagania:

Expected qualifications:
– During the research period, the scholarship holder is a student of first or second cycle studies
at a university in the Republic of Poland,
– Interest in the archaeology of the Near East, Iran, India, Afghanistan, or Central Asia.
– Basic knowledge of GIS methods (georeferencing of images, data creation and editing).
– Experience in working with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or QGIS.
– Experience in working with archival satellite images (CORONA, GAMBIT or HEXAGON).
– Experience in creating datasets for training artificial intelligence.
– Willingness to continuously improve and expand your skills and to actively participate in
conferences.

Opis zadań:

The Department of Oriental Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw is
opening a position for a student to join the project as a research team member. The winning
candidate will receive a stipend and be responsible for digital documentation within the AIQala
project, which aims to investigate cultural, socio-economic, and geographical factors in the
emergence of fortified settlements and their relationship to irrigation systems, using historical,
archaeological, and ethnographic methods, as well as artificial intelligence.
AiQala received funding from the National Science Centre through the OPUS program. The project is
led by Dr Nazarij Buławka and is carried out in collaboration with the Non-Invasive and Digital
Archaeology Laboratory and international partners.
The student will be responsible for preparing deep learning datasets, digitising archaeological
landscape features (canals and other irrigation structures) and architectural plans of qala, and
performing least-cost path and spatial analyses.

Type of contract: Scholarship and stipend (limited to students) under the role of a member of the
AIQala project research team in the Department of Oriental Archaeology, Faculty of Archaeology,
University of Warsaw, Poland
Gross monthly remuneration: 5000.0 PLN/month gross (funded by the National Science Center).
Duration of stipend: 12 months with a possibility of prolongation
Starting date: April, 2026
Commencement of employment:
