Formal requirements:
1. PhD degree obtained after January 1st 2020 (in exceptional cases [sick leave; maternal leave] this period can be extended - for details please see the grantgiver [i.e., NCN] regulations).
2. First-authored publications in journal(s) from the JCR list; candidates who obtained their PhD closer to 2020 should have more impressive publication record.
Please note that the field of previous specialization is not specified – candidates from all disciplines (e.g., economics, sociology) will be considered.
Basic expected skills and characteristics:
1. Self-reliance and strong work ethic.
2. Interest in societal development research and openness to crossing disciplinary boundaries (the project is postdisciplinary).
3. Statistical skills sufficient for analyzing multi-country data (MLM), either already acquired or with a readiness to learn them during the first months of the contract.
The position is relatively short due to the timeframe of the grant. Given that the review process typically takes time, we also expect candidates to be prepared to successfully complete the review and publication process of all their first-authored manuscripts prepared during the Post-Doc position, even after the formal collaboration concludes.
Addressing research questions on lay perceptions of societal development using the available macro-psychological dataset from 70 countries (as well as other datasets), and preparing first-authored manuscripts based on these analyses.
Typ konkursu NCN: OPUS – HS120 000 Polish zl./yearly “brutto brutto”, i.e., with all costs of employer
(Please note that it is difficult to provide a precise “brutto” or “netto” amount over the long term due to fluctuations in the Polish taxation system. At present, the net salary received by the employee is slightly above 60% of the ”brutto brutto” amount. We hope for your understanding.)
The Post-Doc can be provided with a budget for conference participation, as well as a separate budget for in-depth research (to be determined based on the proposed project).
Full time, but we remain open to other solutions (1/2 or 3/4) if a candidate needs it.
We expect the Post-Doc to reside in Poland during the contract period. If the selected candidate is based abroad, a transition period of up to approximately two months can be accommodated, during which the Post-Doc may carry out their regular tasks remotely before relocating to Poland.
In-person presence in Warsaw is required for lab seminars (approximately every second week). Most other tasks can be performed remotely, making it possible for the Post-Doc to reside in another city in Poland outside of Warsaw.
Submission documents:
1. Concise cover letter (max 1 page), briefly summarizing motivation and research interests;
2. CV (including list of publications and materials under review);
3. scan of the most important publication.
Please kindly make sure that your CV contains the personal data processing clause.
Applications shall be submitted to: Kuba Krys (PI) kkrys@psych.pan.pl
Selection process: Selected candidates will be invited to complete an initial task assignment, which includes proposing a research question, outlining a method for addressing it, and providing a brief literature review on the topic. A subset of candidates will then be invited to participate in an online interview. The most promising candidates will be invited to a short-term preliminary collaboration (approximately 6 weeks), during which they will conduct a small research project using our 70-country dataset (data analysis and brief manuscript drafting). The Principal Investigator will provide constructive support throughout the research process.
If a candidate demonstrates high-quality research during the probationary period, but will not be selected for the position, we are ready to agree to allow them to continue working on their manuscript (based on our data) and publish it as the first author.
