We are looking for one PhD student to work in the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland. The scholarship is offered within the international research project entitled: "Superconducting nanohybrids out of equilibrium" No. UMO-2022/04/Y/ST3/00061 financed by the National Science Center under the WEAVE-UNISONO programme. The project is carried out in cooperation with prof. Ireneusz Weymann from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland) and prof. Tomas Novotny from Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic). Maim aim of the project is to study the non-equilibrium properties of nanoscopic superconducting hybrids, which consist of such elements as semiconductor nanowires coupled to superconducting electrodes. Such systems, apart from being used in quantum information technology and sensor technology, make it possible to study quantum phenomena in empirically controllable conditions. With the help of several complementary methods, developed and improved by the two research teams cooperating with each other, we will determine the linear-response properties of the system, such as thermopower and microwave absorption, which were recently measured experimentally. In addition, the selected methods will be generalized to the case of strongly non-equilibrium situations in order to determine the ac Josephson effect induced by voltage (applied between superconducting electrodes) and under the influence of rapid changes in system parameters. We intend to develop a comprehensive set of theoretical methods for a reliable description of non-equilibrium nanohybrids with reference to both currently known experimental results and future measurements.
Typ konkursu NCN: Projekt międzynarodowy – STWe offer a doctoral scholarship in the amount of PLN 5,000 (gross). The planned duration of the tasks in the project is 10 months. The recruitment will take place through the Doctoral School of the M. Curie-Skłodowska University or other doctoral school in Poland. We offer the possibility of attending international conferences, the prospect of developing in a dynamic team publishing in top-ranked journals.
