Individuals who meet the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Act of July 20, 2018, on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742, as amended), and who satisfy the following criteria may apply for the competition:
A doctoral degree in biology, biotechnology, or a related field, obtained at an institution other than the host institution.
Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and in vitro cell culture work; familiarity with single-cell RNAseq techniques is desirable.
At least one publication with leading authorship in the field of sequencing.
H-index of at least 5.
Desirable knowledge of basic biostatistical/bioinformatic methods, supported by courses and internships.
No more than 7 years since obtaining the doctoral degree. For female applicants to these positions, the time limit since obtaining the doctoral degree may be extended by 1.5 years for each born or adopted child.
Required documents:
Candidate's application for the competition;
Curriculum Vitae;
Diplomas or certificates issued by universities confirming education and held degrees or academic titles (in the case of academic degrees obtained abroad, documents must meet the equivalence criteria specified in Article 328 of the Act of July 20, 2018, on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742, as amended));
Information on research, teaching, and organizational achievements;
Consent to the processing of personal data in the following wording: "In accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation of April 27, 2016 (OJ EU L 119/1 of May 4, 2016), I consent to the processing of personal data other than: first name(s) and surname; parents' first names; date of birth; place of residence (correspondence address); education; employment history, contained in my job application for the purposes of the current recruitment."
Myocarditis is a serious cardiovascular disease. It can be caused by bacterial, parasitic, or viral infections, including COVID-19 infection. Myocarditis may also arise from autoimmunization. The disease often leads to dilated cardiomyopathy and myocardial damage. Diagnosis of the disease is hindered by its nonspecific symptoms and the invasive nature of endomyocardial biopsy. Additionally, the molecular mechanisms of the disease and its progression remain unknown. Metformin is a drug commonly used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Little is known about the potential use of metformin in treating myocarditis. Although recent studies demonstrate the cardiopreventive effects of metformin in the course of myocarditis, the mechanisms governing this process are unknown.
To address the scientific objectives of this project, we will employ both basic methods and the most advanced techniques, such as single-cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, and metabolomics. Using these techniques, we will describe the action of metformin at the single-cell level and identify both individual molecules and specific cell populations targeted by the drug, providing a significant advantage over currently used biological methods.
The post-doc will be employed for approximately two years of the project (22 months) on a full-time basis. His/Her work will focus on detailed molecular and cellular analyses of metformin's impact on myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy. Responsibilities will also include preparing cDNA libraries for single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, as well as subsequent analysis of the output data (under PI supervision).
Employment for a period of 22 months
Expected start date of employment: May 1, 2026
Salary: Approximately 8,900 PLN gross per month
