Opis zadań:

Description of tasks:
A fully funded Ph.D. position is available within the SONATA 19 project “Defect Engineering of 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) for Nitrogen Reduction Reaction (NRR).” The goal of this research is to explore the electrocatalytic performance of defect-engineered layered TMDs using a combination of experimental techniques and theoretical simulations. The successful candidate will focus on exploring novel TMD-based materials and surface functionalization strategies aimed at enhancing their electrocatalytic activity toward NRR, thereby contributing to the development of a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to the Haber–Bosch process for ammonia production. Within this framework, the doctoral candidate will conduct NRR experiments and support the demonstration of 2D materials in catalytic and photocatalytic applications, and optimize defect engineering.
The candidate will also perform frequent travels to the collaborators of this project at University College of London in U.K. and University of Chemistry and Technology Prague in Czechia and additionally, participate in synchrotron beamtime experiments, assisting with X-ray absorption spectroscopy techniques such as XANES and EXAFS.

The candidate is expected to:
• Conduct NRR experiments and assist in the demonstration of 2D materials in catalytic applications.
• Optimize defect engineering processes (vacancies, doping, single-atom engineering) in TMDs.
• Perform optical spectroscopy and collect TEM data
• Visit foreign institutes in London and Prague
