The competition is open to persons who meet the following criteria:
- MSc. degree in physics or astronomy at the time of joining NCU in Torun;
- experience in conducting scientific research on the topic of star formation, in particular using spectroscopy at submillimeter and/or infrared wavelengths;
- good oral and written English language skills;
- programming skills (preferred language: Python);
- willingness to work in a diverse, international scientific team with high ethical standards and attention to quality.
Description of tasks:
- Data reduction and processing of molecular and atomic line emission toward low-metallicity clouds in the outer Galaxy and Magellanic Clouds;
- Identifying velocity components of [C I] not traced by CO and constraining the underlying physical conditions and the impact of the environment using PDR models;
- Development of the analysis tools as part of the CCAT consortium.
The PhD scholarship is founded by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the SONATA BIS programme as part of the project "Extreme conditions of star formation in local low metallicity environments".
The scholarship will be awarded for a period of 48 months:
- A monthly stipend of 5,000 PLN will be provided until the mid-term evaluation (after two years);
- Following a positive evaluation of the PhD progress, the stipend will increase to 6,500 PLN per month. project "Extreme conditions of star sormation in local low metallicity environments".
