• A PhD in archaeology obtained no earlier than 7 years ago (this period may be extended according to the post-doc employment rules for National Science Centre [NCN] projects).
• Experience in the study of Aegean Bronze Age textile tools.
• A publication record concerning the Aegean Bronze Age.
• Expertise in macroscopic and typological characterisation, use-wear analysis, and/or experimental archaeology related to textile tools.
• An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Availability to undertake (funded) short field visits to Greece (museum/study collection visits, library visits, laboratory visits).
• Proficiency in English is required; additional proficiencies in Polish or Greek would be considered advantageous.
• While MITAMBA has access to relevant material through established partnerships, a candidate with access to other relevant assemblages will have a significant advantage.
• Conduct comparative research on the textile tool assemblages of the Middle Bronze Age Aegean, with a focus on central Greece, northern Greece, and/or the northeastern Aegean basin.
• Publish research in peer-reviewed journals; present at conferences/ workshops.
• Participate in fieldwork, as needed.
• Contribute to the development of MITAMBA’s research design and methodology.
• Compare results and collaborate with the MITAMBA team and their datasets.
• Contribute to the project's outreach activities, such as public lectures and blog posts.
You will have freedom to direct your own research emphasis within MITAMBA’s scope, but would be expected to examine a range of networks or regionalisms represented within textile tools. Possible avenues of emphasis include (but are not limited to) investigations of mobility through chemical analysis (NAA/petrography), comparative typologies and assemblage composition, production practices, consumption practices through comparative use-wear analysis, and/or experimental archaeology.

The Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (one post-doc research position) funded by the NCN SONATA BIS grant
Minyans and Trojans in the Middle Bronze Age: multi-scale networks in the northern Aegean (2023/50/E/HS3/00578), PI dr Christopher Hale.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced textile tools expert to join our project. MITAMBA examines Middle Bronze Age connectivity within and between central to northern Greece and the northeastern Aegean through an exploration of production practice, consumption behaviour, and distribution patterns. An interdisciplinary team is investigating regionalisms and networks within a range of material culture to reveal new insights into an understudied region and period. The successful candidate will work with current MITAMBA collaborators and partners on key site assemblages of interest.
