Requirements:
1. Proof of admission to a doctoral school. During the scholarship period, the successful candidate must hold doctoral student status at the Jagiellonian University.
2. Excellent command of spoken and written English.
3. Good knowledge of evolutionary biology, basic immunology, and amphibian biology.
4. Knowledge of a Linux/Unix command-line environment and familiarity with the R programming language.
The doctoral student will carry out doctoral research as part of the NCN-funded project "Evolution of innate immunity genes and immune cell types in salamanders", Sonata 21 (NZ-8; 2025/59/D/NZ8/02039), led by Dr Magdalena Migalska. A project summary is available on the NCN website.
The student will identify and annotate coding sequences of core innate immunity genes in diverse salamander species using genomic and transcriptomic resources. He/she will investigate the evolutionary dynamics of these genes, including gene family expansions and contractions, signatures of selection, and characterization of baseline gene expression patterns across ontogeny. The student is expected to participate in manuscript preparations and presentation of results in conferences.
3,000 PLN per month, starting on 1 October 2026, for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

The applications will be considered by a selection committee according to the regulations about scientific scholarships in research projects financed by the National Science Centre, Poland (Regulations on awarding scholarships in the NCN-funded research projects).
The Selection Committee reserves the right to:
• conduct interviews with selected candidates who, based on the information provided in their application documents, have received the highest evaluations;
• notify only selected candidates of the final decision regarding the appointment to the position;
• leave the competition unresolved.
