Specific Requirements:
• PhD student of materials science, chemistry or physics or a closely related fields ( the applicant should be a participant in a doctoral programme (Within the meaning of the Act on Higher Education of 27 July 2005) or a doctoral candidate at a doctoral school (Within the meaning of the Act on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018)
• Enthusiasm and engagement in the scientific work.
• Knowledge about nanomaterials and electrochemistry.
• Laboratory experience in the field of synthesis.
• Familiarity with characterization methods, particularly XRD, Raman, XRD, and XPS, independence in designing and carrying out experiments/characterizations.
• Familiarity with scanning electrochemical microscopy.
• Analytical mindset for interpreting measured data.
• Good knowledge of English.

Opis zadań:

With this project, we aim to utilize the carbon dots derived from biowaste (BWCDs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), for a novel biosensing platform. Overcoming challenges in creating a versatile material platform for biomolecules necessitates precise control of nanoscale material characteristics. Introducing out-of-plane functionalities and covalent bridges in BWCDs, coupled with MOFs, which can offer an ideal biosensing platform. By altering functionalities in BWCDs and MOFs, a wide range of bioreceptors can be immobilized. Integration with scanning electrochemical microscopy aims to enhance biosensor performance by extending the limit of detection, crucial for detecting minute concentrations of target biomolecules.

Responsibilities:
• Synthesis and optimization of biowaste derived activated carbon and metal organic frameworks and their structural and electrochemical characterization.
• Literature survey
• Data plotting
• Presentation and reports preparation
• Assistance in supervising students in the laboratory.

PhD Student positions available in the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS within National Science Center (NSC) POLONEZ BIS 3 Project No. 2022/47/P/ST5/02424 “Development of biowaste-derived carbon dots and metal-organic frameworks heterostructures to build a platform for printable biosensors” led by dr. Disha.

• ~4-month scholarship (but no later than the project completion date - December 29, 2026) of 5000 PLN per month financed from the NCN POLONEZ BIS 3 Project No. 2022/47/P/ST5/02424
• The job in the interdisciplinary project, realized in the Nanoelectrochemistry group.
• You will synthesize metal organic frameworks and do their structural characterization, especially with the scanning electrochemical microscope.
The successful candidate will gain experience in the field of nanomaterials and electrochemistry. This scholarship is a chance to work on the leading edge topics in nanotechnology and nanoelectrochemistry.

Key assessment criteria:
The Commission will take into account the following criteria and evaluate applications on a point scale:

• the candidate’s research achievements, including publications in prestigious academic press /journals (50% of the final score)
• research-related achievements, scholarships, awards and research experience gained in Poland or abroad, research workshops and training courses, participation in research projects (20% of the final score)
• the candidate’s competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (30% of the final score).
