Job Description:
We seek for outstanding and enthusiastic researchers with strong expertise in the synthesis and characterization of organic/organometallic compounds (ideally, π-functional compounds for electronic/optoelectronic applications), and a proven record of high quality research and achievements, to be a part of interdisciplinary research team on development of photo/electroactive organic π-functional molecules as materials for optoelectronics. The successful candidates will work in the group of Prof. Igor Perepichka on the NCN (Narodowe Centrum Nauki, Poland) OPUS project toward development of novel semiconductive and light-emitting molecules based on azatriangulene core and related structures.

Qualifications & Prerequisites:
1) PhD degree in Chemistry or an equivalent level of professional qualification and experience are essential.
2) PhD degree should be obtained within 7 years prior to employment on the project.
3) Well versed with methods of modern organic and physical organic chemistry.
4) Candidate should have confirmed research experience and strong background in organic synthesis of π-functional molecules and general methods of characterisations (NMR, MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, HPLC etc).
5) Experience in photophysical and/or electrochemical methods of studies of organic molecular and/or polymeric materials for electronics
6) Strong publication records relevant to organic chemistry and/or materials science.
7) Highly motivated researcher with strong interest in pursuing research in experimental organic materials chemistry.
8) Ability to resolve complex issues and make technical, and procedural decisions and judgments
9) An ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
10) An ability to work under high pressure in a tight-time schedule to solve complex tasks.
11) Good writing skills for scientific articles.
12) Good interpersonal/communication skills and high level of English proficiency (both spoken and written).
13) Adhere to high ethical standards.

Additional Requirements (Desirable Skills):
1) Previous postdoctoral (post-PhD) research in other Universities or R&D experience in industry is a plus.
2) Research grant writing skills are desirable.
3) Familiarity with and/or experience in the related fields of optoelectronic materials and devices.
4) Industrial experience or collaboration with industry.
5) International experience at universities abroad.

Opis zadań:

Main Tasks and Key Responsibilities:
1) Design and synthesis of organic π-conjugated molecules. Their isolation and purification by various methods (crystallization, flash chromatography, sublimation, etc).
2) Structural characterization of synthesized compounds using the basic set of instrumental techniques: NMR spectroscopy (1D/2D), MS, FTIR, HPLC, UV-Vis).
3) Studies of redox-active and photoactive electron donor and/or electron acceptor π-functional materials by optical (UV-Vis-NIR absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopies), electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods, ESR, Involvement in other studies as required (Raman spectroscopy, XRD, DSC/TGA, electron microscopy and other methods).
4) Participate actively in other research and development activities on new electronic materials.
5) Preparation of proper records and database on performed experiments and measurements and their analysis.
6) Writing original research articles and reviews for publication, with a focus on publishing research results in leading journals in the field.
7) Involvement in grant proposal preparation.
8) Develop project plan and execute scientific programme in a timely manner.
9) Reporting the progress of research to Prof. Igor F. Perepichka.
10) To be involved in mentoring and training PhD students in the group.
11) Provide guidance, mentor and training to working team and regular review of needs to ensure proficiency of the team.
12) Assist in organizing other academic activities for the project (e.g., academic speeches, conferences, meetings, publicity etc);
13) Other academic and managing tasks assigned by the PI.

Terms and Conditions of Employment:
1) Persons, who meet the requirements specified in the Act of 20 July 2018 on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668, as amended) and the Statute of the Silesian University of Technology of 3 June, 2019 (Legal Monitor of SUT of 2020, item 339) may enter the competition for the position of assistant professor.
2) Estimated work commencement date: immediately.
3) Workplace: Centre for Organic and Nanohybrid Electronics (CONE), group of Prof. Igor F. Perepichka. Position is related to a research project financed by the National Science Centre, Poland, no. 2023/51/B/ST5/03009, entitled Novel Azatriangulenes as Electron Donor and Electron Acceptor C3-Symmetry Cores for Design of pi-Functional Materials in Organic Electronics.
4) Contract type: fixed term, full-time job, available immediately; minimum 6 months with the possibility for an extension up to 20 months, although the employment must end no later than 29/07/2028 (subject successful initial 6-months probation period).
5) Rank of an employment: Assistant Professor (M/F) or Assistant Researcher (M/F), depending on qualification.

7) Remuneration: PLN 11,660 gross per month (the amount includes all the employee’s and employer’s costs (employer’s contributions to healthcare, pension, etc.), as well as additional annual salary), which is up to total PLN 140,000 per year.
