Full Professor of Classics, head of the Hellenistic Unit in the Institute of Classical Philology at the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology at the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. She was promoted to MA in 1985, to PhD (Humanities) in 1990, received her habilitation in 1995 and the title of professor in 2001.

Her research interests include various aspects of Greek poetry, and Greek prose of the Imperial period. She has published 8 books (two co-authored with Professor Jerzy Danielewicz). Her monograph, Greek Elegy and Iambus. Studies in Ancient Literary Sources (1993) is widely cited abroad.  Her greatest achievements include also a commented edition of  Greek elegiac and iambic poems of the Archaic and Classical Periods (1999), works devoted to Pseudo-Plutarch’s treatise On Music (1992 and 1995), the first ever Polish translation of Athenaeus’ monumental work The Learned Banqueteers (2010, co-authored) and a monographic study of the history of Greek comedy with a commented Polish translation of a selection of Greek comic fragments (2011, co-authored). Additonally, she published a commented translation of a selection of the writings of Philodemus of Gadara (2002) and a commented translation of the epistolary novel On the Democritus’ Laughter ascribed to Hippocrates (2007). She has published over 90 chapters in the collective monographs and articles in prestigious Polish and foreign periodicals (among others Eos, The Classical Quarterly, Quaderni Urbinati di Cultura Classica, Hermes, Philologus, Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphik, AION, Paideia, Mnemosyne, Archiv für Papyrusforschung, Antike und Abendland, Museum Helveticum). She delivered lectures at several universities abroad (among others in Oxford, Reading, Berlin, Halle, Giessen, Paris, Salamanca, Naples, Cosenza, Lecce).

She was a principal investigator or investigator in 5 grants awarded by KBN, multiple chairman and member of panels of NCN.

Between 1999-2006 she acted as the head of the Institute of Classical Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. A member of Polish Philological Society (1998-2013 Vice-President and member of the Main Board of the Society), member of the Scientific Committee on Ancient Culture of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 2012 the President of the Committee),  since 2012 corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, member of the editorial board of the periodical Symbolae Philologorum Posnaniensium, member of the Wissenschaftlicher Beirat of the German classical journal Philologus, reviewer or  peer reviewer appointed by numerous European and American periodicals in the field of classics. Since 2008 member of the Network for the Studies of Archaic and Classical Greek Song at Radbout University Nijmegen.

Her research was supported by Soros Foundation (Corpus Christi College Oxford), Mainzer Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur (FU Berlin), the Griffths Fund (Jesus College Oxford), the Foundation for Polish Science (the professorial subsidy, now called Master-Mistrz), and the Loeb Classical Library Foundation (Harvard University).

She was awarded several prizes (among others the Richards Prize, Corpus Christi College Oxford, the Minister of Science and Higher Education award). In 2000 she was nominated (together with Professor Jerzy Danielewicz) for the Jan Długosz Prize.

She promoted 5 doctors in the field of classical studies.
