Full professor. Physicist specialising in classical and quantum statistical physics. Education: Between 1971 and 1974, studied physics at the A. Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Between 1974 and 1976, studied theoretical physics at the University of Silesia in Katowice. In 1981, awarded doctorate, in 1990, obtained habilitation and in 1996, became a professor. Between 2002 and 2005, Director at the Institute of Physics. Head of the Department of Theoretical Physics. In 2000, Fellow at the Institute of Physics (United Kingdom). In 2016, member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU). Between 2011 and 2019, Editor of the European Physical Journal B. Between 2012 and 2015, Chairman of the Statistical and Nonlinear Physics Division of the European Physical Society.

Theoretical papers on transport phenomena in periodic systems (Brownian motors, ratchet systems, noise-induced transport, absolute negative conductance (mobility) in Jesephson junctions, efficiency controlled by thermal fluctuations, transient anomalous diffusion) and publications on quantum open systems (phenomena and correlations in the presence of dissipation and dephasing, energy partition principle).
