- Institute of Geophysics Polish Academy of Sciences
Full Professor and the Head of Department of Seismology at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Graduated as a physicist, since 1975 linked to geophysics with a particular interest in studies of natural and anthropogenic seismicity, until 2010 in AGH University of Science and Technology, and then in IG PAS. His main research interest is assessment of seismic hazards by means of methods of mathematical statistics. He has authored or co-authored over 130 research papers, presented more than 20 key-notes on international symposia and coordinated or participated in about 50 research and a number of innovation projects: national, European, US and South African. In 2004-2005 he worked with UNESCO as a consultant of strong motion monitoring in Libya. Between 2013-2015 he was one of six members of the ICHESE commission, appointed by the Italian Government to assess possible links between the Emilia 2012 seismic sequence and the hydrocarbon exploitation in the area. Since 2007 he has chaired the Triggered and Induced Seismicity Working Group of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth Interior. Since 2010 he has been deeply involved in integrating European infrastructure of induced seismicity into the framework of the European Plate Observing System (EPOS) integration project; the major infrastructural long-term Earth science project in Europe.
