The Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, Branch Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses, Potsdam (Fraunhofer IZI-BB) focuses on analytics, diagnostics, biosystems technology and biological safety to address promising, sustainable fields of development. The research includes sample preparation, development of molecular recognition elements and data acquisition as well as miniaturization and automation of corresponding technologies in order to provide reliable, flexible and easy-to-use process flows and solutions. From lateral flow tests to immunoassays, we offer assay development and adaption throughout the entire process according to the requirement of the task. Current work and potential opportunities for cooperation include: Diagnostic testing: - Rapid pathogen and antimicrobial resistance test (smear test, "lateral flow" strategies) and other point-of-care testing (POCT) applications e.g. portable nucleic acid amplification - Biomarker validation and development and adaptation of assays - System integration and development of (miniaturized) diagnostic instruments - Digital diagnostics Interventions on development and transmission of AMR - Alternatives to antibiotics: E.g. Antimicrobial peptides (AMP), phytochemicals, antimicrobial polymers… - Design and production of specific functionalized surfaces - Molecular understanding of AMR and finding/validating novel biomarkers - Measuring the effectiveness of intervention strategies in the biological environment - Technological solution to avoid the transmission of pathogens
