Staphylococcus Enterobactereacea molecular epidemiology genomics microbiome&resistome
I am an expert on molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistant bacteria, namely on staphylococci and enterobacteracea. I have also expertise on the origin of antibiotic resistance determinants. We use genomic tools to determine relatedness of bacterial strains, their resistome and content in pathogenic traits. We also use GWAS to associate genotype and phenotype and identify new resistant and virulence determinants. Genetic studies might be done to clarify mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. We have some putative new probiotic strains under study. We have a good network of hospitals, medical doctors and veterinarians with whom we have strong collaborations and can get bacterial isolates easily. We have an ongoing project on antimicrobial resistance in pig meat food chain in Portugal.
Any study addressing the transmission of antibiotic resistance between environment, animals and humans or addressing mechanisms for avoiding this transmission.
