Human Health Animal Health Environment
Antimicrobial Resistance; Surveillance; Diagnostic and Antimicrobial stewardships; One Health; IPC and antibiotic treatment;
My expertise: By training I am pathologist/clinical microbiologist and AMR aspects were areas of my interest since I become specialist in the microbiology. AMR is the most challenging field in the microbiology and hence I have been involved from the basic AST in laboratory to the whole genome sequencing; from the clinical microbiology consultancy at the bed site to the hospital antimicrobial stewardship programs; from infection control program at hospitals to the national policy development; from the routine real time to the national AMR surveillance. As an expert in laboratory quality system and the principal investigator for External Quality Assessment in bacteriology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, this program is at the global recognition. My involvement in One Health AMR programs at the national and the global levels have been recognized with membership of numbers of committees, associations, societies and others. In addition, I am recipient of the Medical Research Cancel (MRC) and Grand Challenge Grant for the project on the Antimicrobial resistance prevalence and transmission between animal feed and humans. Looking for: experts in AMR human, animal and environmental fields in broad aspect.
Project aim is to determine the prevalence of AMR, measure the association between antimicrobial usage and the emergence of AMR, as well as determine the risk of transmission of AMR genes between the farm environment, farm employees and animals in commercial pig farms in South Africa. I would like to join: One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
