The "Group for the study of infectious diseases in the province of Cadiz" arises from the idea of studying infectious pathology from a multidisciplinary point of view. Thus, the presence in the group of endocrinologists, traumatologists, nephrologists, microbiologists and infectious pathologists will enable a broader approach to infectious diseases in different fields. The research lines have been developed recently. The lines that the group intends to work on are: 1. Infections associated with implants: Study of infections associated with joint prostheses, osteosynthesis material or cardiovascular devices (pacemakers, implantable defibrillators...etc). Both descriptive and analytical studies of this type of infections will be carried out, seeking to identify risk factors for the development of these infections and prognostic factors in their evolution. 2. Optimisation of antimicrobial treatments: Analysis of the results obtained with the "Rational Use of Antibiotics" programmes that are carried out in the different hospitals. 3. Hospital bacteraemias. Descriptive and analytical studies on hospital bacteraemias. 4. Diabetic Foot Infection. Analysis of the cohort of patients attended by the Diabetic Foot Unit of the Puerto Real University Hospital. 5. Infections in patients undergoing renal replacement therapy. Study of the various infectious pathologies in a population whose characteristics make it particularly susceptible to this type of pathology. Our research group has access to hospitalised patients, as part of the research team consists of physicians specialised in infectious diseases. The hospital we belong to is a 250-bed hospital where patients from various populations come together.
Our research unit would be interested in collaborating in multicentre projects related to infectious diseases in: -Clinical trials related to some of the items we describe, both in hospitalised patients and patients attending outpatient clinics. -Basic research studies related to the infectious diseases defined, so that we are searching for molecular support to clinical research. -Infectious diseases observational studies, both retrospective and prospective.
