I am a Senior Molecular Biologist at Fera Science Ltd. My principal research interests lie in the use of High Throughput DNA sequencing (HTS) of bacterial genomes and metagenomes for food safety and plant health purposes. This includes the use of HTS and other molecular and phenotypic tools to understand the risks posed by Antimicrobial Resistance in the agrifood chain, underpinned by several projects and PhD studentships. I have extensive project management and reporting experience, including the management of a number of UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) projects, and currently hold a joint position with the FSA as Science Fellow on the cross-government PATH-SAFE Programme. I am particularly interested in the evolution and drivers of AMR in crop agriculture, including in plant pathogens, and in commensal organisms and human pathogens on crops.
I am interested in joining projects related to AMR detection, either molecular detection of AMR genes (including HTS-based or rapid detection) or development of phenotypic tests for the presence of AMR bacteria. I would be particularly interested in deploying this in plant/plant agriculture environments.
