The Public Hospital “SS. Antonio e Biagio e Cesare Arrigo” of Alessandria (AO AL), is part of the National Health Service of the Piedmont Region (Italy). It is a reference Hospital with a second level Department of Accident and Emergency (A&E) serving about 500,000 inhabitants within the Alessandria Province. At the AO AL there is a multidisciplinary Antimicrobial Stewardship Team (AST), that includes infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, epidemiologists, pharmacists and infection control nurses. Our activity is committed to fast microbiology, AMR surveillance through the integration of multiple data-systems, environment role in the pathogenesis of infections, education, and audit of practice internal and external to the healthcare institution. AO AL is the only one in Piedmont Region with a Research and Innovation Department (DAIRI) that also includes the Local Health Authority. It promotes synergies between scientific research and healthcare activities including an infrastructure with specific facilities (Clinical Trial Center, Grant Office, Biomedical Library, Training, Biobank and Health Technology Assessment) essential to implement preclinical, clinical (Phase II-IV, Healthcare Profession), translational, population and management research.
We are looking for a project to improve patient treatment outcomes and safety by reducing the development of AMR and implementing AMR surveillance for example through a genomic sequencing of MDR bacterial strains within the hospital, monitoring of antibiotic consumption, study of infections associated with healthcare procedures and adequacy of the prescribed antibiotic therapy.
