16th JPIAMR transnational call for research projects - AMR diagnostics and surveillance 2023 (DISTOMOS)

This is a match-making section for JPIAMR 16th call -AMR diagnostics and surveillance 2023 (DISTOMOS).

General Information

  • Type: Partner looking for project
  • Organisation: University of Warsaw
  • Country: Poland (PL)
  • Career stage: Early Career Researcher (up to 8 years** since PhD).

Research area

  • Scientific area(s) of the call:
    1. Topic 1: to develop novel, or improve existing, diagnostics, including point of care diagnostics, that can rule out antimicrobial use or help identify the most effective antimicrobial treatment
  • One Health Setting:

Animal Health (incl. wild-life, livestock, acquatic organisms, and companion animals)
    Environment (incl. natural and built)

  • Keywords:

One health; antibiotic resistance genes; antibiotic resistant bacteria; bovine mastitis; farm animals

  • Brief description of your expertise / expertise you are looking for:

My scientific interest: non-antibiotic antimicrobial compounds (alternatives to antibiotics) – bacteriocins (isolation, purification, structural analysis) and essential oils, bovine mastitis/mammary gland inflammation in dairy cattle, mammary gland immune response to bacterial infection (dairy cattle and dairy goats) – cytokines, defensins, acute phase proteins, antibiotic resistance in environmental bacteria, the molecular basis of antibiotic resistance, antibiotic resistance transfer among environmental bacteria, antibiotic resistance transfer to the food chain (mainly ‘form farm to fork’ aspect). All fields of my expertise combine in the ‘One Health’ approach. I am working on the determining of the molecular basis of bacterial infection and the immune response of farm animals to infection, to limit antibiotic use and subsequently limit the selective pressure on environmental bacteria to ensure safe food products for humans. Regardless my broad lab experience, I also have an extensive experience in working on scientific projects as a grant holder (2 projects granted by the National Science Centre, Poland) as well as a postdoc (main contractor) in one national research project (related to dairy cattle mammary gland inflammatory response to mastitis granted by National Science Centre, Poland) and two international ones (INART - Intervention of antimicrobial resistance transfer into the food chain granted by JPI AMR via National Science Centre Poland; SusCatt - Increasing productivity, resource efficiency and product quality to increase the economic competitiveness of forage and grazing based cattle production systems).

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

I am interested in a collaboration aiming the AMR and ARB identification in farm animals, its relation to the disease severity, immunological response of the animal to disease, and potential transfer risk of resistance domain from farm animals to the human food chain (food safety) – mainly risks related to mammary gland inflammation or using of animal feces as an arable soil fertilizer.
