  • Brief description of your expertise / expertise you are looking for:

We are the team of the Department of Swine Diseases at the National Veterinary Institute (PIWet) in Poland. Our staff is experienced and highly qualified in microbiology, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection, and the development of surveillance systems for different animal pathogens, including zoonotic agents. We are the leading research group in the field of swine diseases in Poland, and our activities include National Reference Laboratories (NRLs) related to this area. In monitoring surveys, we closely collaborate with veterinarians, local veterinary laboratories, Veterinary Inspection, and government administration in Poland. In accordance with our competence, currently we carry out surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in the swine population under the government program of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In our investigations, we focus on the following bacterial species, which can be a reservoir of AMR for human pathogens: Streptococcus suis, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus parasuis, Trueperella pyogenes, Pasteurella multocida, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Staphylococcus hyicus, and Staphylococcus aureus. Considering that Poland has one of the largest pig populations in the European Union (6th place based on Eurostat data from 2021), this surveillance is particularly important from the European perspective of One Health AMR. Furthermore, it should be noted that our group has experience in the realization of different projects funded by ERA-NET or One Health European Joint Programme. Of these projects in "AMR diagnostics and surveillance 2023 (DISTOMOS)," our knowledge gained from participation in "MATRIX: Connecting dimensions in One-Health surveillance" could be beneficial. In summary, we think that our skills described above will be valuable to the 16 JAPIAMR 2023 projects.

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

We are interested in collaborating on a project concerning different areas of AMR surveillance in line with the One Health approach.
