biofilms proteomics interactomes intermolecular interactions Candida fungi
Our group specializes in the analysis of the mechanisms underlying interactions within the single and mixed biofilms involving bacteria and fungal opportunistic pathogens. We are experienced in the study of mono-species and polymicrobial biofilms under aerobic and anaerobic conditions with an emphasis on the effect of various molecules, including those produced by bacteria, products of natural origin, as well as antibacterial and antifungal drugs, on the fungal filamentation, microbial adhesion, mixed biofilm formation, production of biofilm extracellular matrix and extracellular vesicle secretion. We investigate the interactomics and proteomics of microbial contacts in a mixed community and apply the methodology of studying the physicochemical basis of intermolecular interactions with the specific focus on the protein-protein interaction analysis with surface plasmon resonance measurements, ELISA and ELLSA tests, fluorescence anisotropy, together with mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, fluorescence microscopy, gene expression analysis and production of recombinant proteins. Our research concerns also investigating the influence of interkingdom microbial complexes on the inflammatory response of human primary cells, cell lines and air-liquid interface 3D culture system.
We would like to collaborate on studies on the efficiency and mechanisms of action of antimicrobial substances, applied to biofilms both individually and in combinations, also considering the drug modification and new methods of administration of the substances already in use.
