This is a match-making section for CHANSE, HERA and NORFACE: Crisis and Wellbeing calls.
Weather; Warnings; Behavioural decisions; Social psychology; Cultural Geography
My academic training is in Social Psychology (MSc) and Cultural Geography (MSc; PhD). I have over a decade of experience in conducting inter- and transdisciplinary research in both conceptual and applied contexts, ranging from flood risk perceptions and weather impacts on tourist experiences, to co-production of climate services and mapping of user needs for weather and sea-ice information. While having experience using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies and building on theories and approaches of the above disciplines, in my current position at the Norwegian Meteorological Insitute I consider myself increasingly an applied social scientist in the field of weather information services.
The weather is as much an atmospheric process that can be measured, predicted and communicated about, as a psychological and cultural phenomenon that is physically experienced and made sense of in cognitive and affective ways. Accounting for these socio-cultural processes is crucial for the translation of weather information into actionable formats that support decision-making, especially in the case of high-impact weather conditions. I am particularly interested in joining a consortium that explores the interrelations between people\'s skills to observe and sense the weather, and their perceptions of weather (warning) information.
