I am Assistant Prof / Lecturer in Environmental History at University College Cork in Ireland. I have expertise in history and archaeology and I am particularly interested in how societies adapt to climatic and economic change in the long term. I use a combination of documentary records, oral history, archaeological fieldwork, GIS and environmental science in my work. Geographically I focus on Europe and chronologically I have worked on both medieval and modern periods (circa 500-1900 AD). I have published widely in environmental history and landscape archaeology and am a founding member of the new Radical Humanities Laboratory in University College Cork (https://www.ucc.ie/en/future-humanities/radical/).
I would be interested in joining and contributing to any project that takes a long-term perspective on societal crisis, especially if it has the ambition to contribute to present-day policy and planning.
