Humans are social animals and as such the nature of people’s social networks is one of the single most important determinants of their life satisfaction and well-being. My research focuses on social networks - the set of ties people have to their family and friends. I have examined how these social networks are related to indicators of well-being (such as depression, loneliness and anxiety), how they are influenced by personality and how they are affected by the use of social media. I have expertise in a variety of methods including social network analysis and use of \'big data\' from mobile phones and social media.

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

I would be interested in joining any project examining the influence of social relationships or social media use on well-being. I have a particular interest in how well-being in students is related to changes in their social networks and the social transition to University life.
