Political incivility; well-being; life satisfaction; radical political action
I am a social scientist with experience of studying how culture shapes individuals’ values and norms as well as emotional, cognitive and behavioral outcomes associated with power and status in social interactions.
I am keen to take this research further by collecting survey and experimental data on the psychological causes and consequences of poor wellbeing among citizens as well as political leaders in social and political contexts. For example, a citizen\'s direct or indirect experience of political incivility may be strongly correlated with their level of happiness in life. We also believe that such experiences, if sustained, can increase people\'s political apathy, which can then develop into extreme forms of political disengagement. In addition to the well-being of citizens, it is also important to examine the impact of political incivility, which is often seen in interactions between politicians, on the well-being of politicians. Developing these research themes could ultimately lead to impact-oriented proposals to help make politics more sustainable and effective.
