Welded structures strength; ultrasonic testing; coercive force; two-criteria approach
Our researcher team have gained experience in studying destruction of various objects of the oil and gas industry, nuclear energy, bridges and construction metal structures. Data on typical damage to infrastructure facilities have been collected, methods of non-destructive testing, technical diagnostics, assessment of seismic resistance and structural strength under static, cyclic loads of welded metal structures operated at low, normal and high temperatures have been developed. A number of full-scale experiments of pipes and pressure vessels with various types of operational damage were performed.
We are seeking collaborations with research groups focusing on similar problems and looking for a potential coordinating partner from the US for a project on specified thematic. Modern methods of technical diagnostics, assessment of structural strength and durability of welded metal structures do not take into account the specifics damage from an explosion or a direct hit by bullets, shells, etc. In this case, defects of specific forms are accompanied by significant deformations of structural elements due to warping under the influence of high-temperature radiation and shock waves. These factors should be taken into account both under assessing the geometry and location of the defects and anomaly of the stress-strain state by non-destructive testing and diagnostic methods, and when determining the strength of welded metal structures. Thus, developing of new approaches to examination of explosion damaged equipment using the space-time method of ultrasonic testing and coercytometric diagnostics, the study of the mechanisms and nature of its destruction, developing of methods for strength assessment will contribute to maintaining of critical infrastructure objects in operable state.
