bioremediation entomoremediation biowaste valorization insects bioaccumulation
We are researching the use of insects (Hermetia illucens, Tenebrio molitor, Zophobas morio and others) for: environmental cleaning (entomoremediation); bioaccumulation of heavy metals and rare earth elements; entomodegradation (e.g. plastic eating insects); valorization of different kind of waste biomass with the use of insects; use of insect frass as fertilizer. Moreover, we are looking for new possibilities of upcycling waste generated during insect rearing, such as for biogas, biochar and chitin production. We have also scientific background concerning plant abiotic stresses and measuring antioxidant enzymes activities in relations to it.
All projects in which we can use insect to utilise/valorize waste biomass. Upcycling or in other words revalorization of waste to insect biomass create the possibilities to use its protein, fat, chitin/chitosan to obtain e.g. food or feed, biodiesel, sorbents etc.
