bacterial evolution; adaptive laboratory evolution; adjuvants; drug cycling; combination therapy
My lab has developed a lab evolution platform, SAGE, and used it in a series of publications for the high-throughput evolution of bacterial resistance. We have directly evolved resistance to \'evolution proof\' drugs, evolved antibiotic-susceptible bacteria purely through antibiotic exposure, and are experienced in the antimicrobial testing and evolution of clinical isolates. Well practiced in the growth/testing of lab strains and clinical isolates of E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. enterica, Enterococcus gallinarum. Experience with whole genome sequencing, plasmid analysis, testing of S. aureus.
-Discovery and characterization of new antibiotics. -Discovery and characterization of new methods of antimicrobial resistance. -Generation and study of resistance mechanisms, bacterial fitness. -Evolutionary pathway characterization. -Characterizing the evolutionary potential of new compounds, including those designed not to induce the evolution of antimicrobial resistance.
