OHAMR Call for proposals 2026

This is a match-making section for OHAMR Call for proposals 2026.

General Information

  • Type: Partner looking for project
  • Organisation: Universidad Complutense de Madrid
  • Country: Spain (ES)
  • Career stage: Other.

Research area

  • Scientific area(s) of the call:
    1. Topic 1: Identify and develop new combination treatments using existing or innovative antimicrobials or antimicrobial with adjunctive treatments to extend drug efficacy and combat resistance.
  • One Health Setting:

    H - Human Health

    A - Animal Health
    E - Environment
    P - Plants (Plant Health)

  • Keywords:

Bacteriocin; antimicrobial peptides; cell-free; purification; screening

  • Brief description of your expertise / expertise you are looking for:

I specialize in bacteriocins and antimicrobial peptides, covering their discovery, engineering, purification, and functional characterization. My group maintains one of the largest collections of bacteriocins and bacteriocin-producing strains, enabling extensive comparative and functional studies. I have developed innovative platforms such as cell-free protein synthesis (IV-CFPS) and the SIML split-intein system for rapid production, screening, and optimization of circular bacteriocins and other RiPPs. My work integrates synthetic biology, genomics/metagenomics, and food-safety microbiology, with additional experience in microbial isolation and education initiatives (e.g., Small World Initiative). I am seeking partners with expertise in AMR surveillance, in vivo validation of alternative antimicrobials, genome mining/bioinformatics, epidemiology, and translational development of new antimicrobial solutions within a One Health framework.

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

I seek to contribute to a project focused on reducing antimicrobial resistance through the discovery, optimization, and application of novel antimicrobial peptides. Ideal projects integrate genome mining, high-throughput functional screening (including cell-free systems), and evaluation of alternatives to antibiotics in food, animal, or environmental settings. I am particularly interested in initiatives that bridge fundamental microbiology, synthetic biology, and translational research, ultimately supporting the development of safe, effective, biologically based AMR interventions within a One Health framework.
