Research area

  • Scientific area(s) of the call:
    1. Topic 1: Identify and develop new combination treatments using existing or innovative antimicrobials or antimicrobial with adjunctive treatments to extend drug efficacy and combat resistance.
  • One Health Setting:

    H - Human Health

  • Keywords:

PK/PD PBPK modelling IVIV Extrapolation Systems medicine Omics integration

  • Brief description of your expertise / expertise you are looking for:

Our team comprises expert system biology/medicine modelers and pharmacometricians with diverse backgrounds spanning control theory, computer science, biology, and pharmacology. Our primary research interests lie in systems biology/medicine and pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics, focusing on InVitro-InVivo extrapolation approaches development and pathway investigation based on Omics integration We specialize in developing tailored models aimed at facilitating research in metabolism, regulation, signaling, and pharmacokinetics. Leveraging various methodologies such as kinetic modeling utilizing ordinary differential equation systems, stoichiometric modeling (primarily for metabolism studies), Boolean modeling, as well as Linear and Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models, we adapt our approaches to meet specific research requirements. We provide tailored model development strategies that align with the nature of the process under study, whether it involves metabolism, regulatory networks, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, signaling networks, or individual genetic variations. The complexity of the system\'s interacting elements and the extent of available knowledge or experimental data shape our approach. Constructing a meaningful model demands significant effort from both modelers and domain specialists. However, the outcome offers a profound understanding of the intricate interactions among system elements. This comprehension enables the in silico testing of various hypotheses or interventions, aiding in the identification of the most promising ones for subsequent experimental implementation

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

We are interested in collaboration with specialists in biology, clinical medicine and pharmacology to use or competences in establishing, analyse and optimize models. Models can be used to study the process of interest (like concentration in specific parts of body, provide in vitro to in vivo extrapolation, describe signalling pathways or cascades, describe individual variability etc.), test cause-consequence hypotheses and systemic effects of interventions. Depending on specific interest also other issues can be addressed.
