antibiotic ribosome stress response
We offer expertise in working with ribosomes and ribosome-targeting antibiotics, ranging from the identification of ribosomal targets to structure-informed design of antibiotics that bind the ribosome. In our research we aim to define how ribosome arrest activates gene expression in an antibiotic-specific and concentration-dependent manner, and how bacteria use this antibiotic-mediated signaling to coordinate a stress response that leads to intrinsic resistance. We investigate the mechanisms of these antibiotics in clinically relevant models such as Staphylococcus, Clostridioides, and Mycobacterium species, thereby ensuring high translational applicability.
Our laboratory seeks to actively participate in projects that implement ribosome-targeting antibiotics alongside investigations into stress-induced cellular responses that elicit intrinsic antibiotic resistance.
