Our research group develops and characterises natural bioactive compounds, mainly from Plectranthus species, and semi-synthetic derivatives with antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. We have expertise in identifying compounds active against antibiotic-resistant bacteria (e.g., MRSA, VRE), studying structure–activity relationships, and using computational modelling to design molecules targeting drug resistance mechanisms. We are interested in collaborating with partners working on antimicrobial resistance, drug discovery, combination therapies and translational research, within a One Health perspective.
We would like to join a project focused on developing innovative antimicrobial strategies, including the identification of new natural or semi-synthetic compounds, combination therapies, or adjunctive treatments that enhance antimicrobial efficacy and reduce resistance. We are particularly interested in contributing with expertise in natural product chemistry, compound synthesis, biological evaluation, and computational modelling to support the development of new therapeutic solutions against resistant pathogens.
