Our team is responsible of the unit AMR within the Foodborne Pathogens service and responsible of the NRL-AMR of Gram negative bacteria at Sciensano. We are responsible for coordinating the annual AMR monitoring programme on indicator E. coli and zoonotic bacteria in accordance to FASFC and EFSA. The scientific service of Foodborne Pathogens ensures the detection, monitoring and diagnosis of pathogens transmitted to humans through food. As a recognized research centre, it plays a role in the National /International monitoring laboratories network and serves as a reference laboratory for foodborne outbreaks, bacterial and viral foodborne pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) transmitted by food. The service has strong expertise in AMR surveillance and molecular typing. It is actively involved in the development of new detection methods for AMR to closely monitor emerging resistance profiles using both, phenotypic and advanced techniques such as NGS. The scientific service maintains a molecular AMR database focused on zoonotic bacteria which serves as a crucial tool in the AMR surveillance at national and international levels.
Our team is seeking to join the OHAMR consortia under Topic 3 (and 1) to improve the One Health approach. We would be delighted to contribute for any project in which our expertise could be useful.
