  • Brief description of your expertise / expertise you are looking for:

We have extracted antimicrobial compound from natural products such as seaweeds and green tea. We have analysed them for cytotoxicity, antimicrobial properties against a range of AMR pathogens, including hospital and community acquired strains and biofilm disruption. We have incorporated them into formulations for delivery, such as in wound dressings and evaluated the outcomes in conjunction with the regional hospital. We found that seaweed extracts can be used in combination with other antibiotics enabling them to be used at a lower dose.

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

We would like to join any project that thinks it could make use of our skillset, e.g. University of Birmingham project on novel antimicrobial combinations against biofilms, but are open to other options. We feel that our expertise would contribute to potential projects in this field. We want to use these novel bioactives from natural products to reduce the risk of toxicity and AMR in combinatory treatment with existing antibiotics and research so far has indicated their potential to do that.
