Mucosal vaccines present significant advantages over parenteral vaccines by targeting the mucosal surfaces where respiratory pathogens initially invade. They stimulate stronger local immune responses and enhanced T-cell activity, in contrast to the primarily systemic humoral immunity elicited by injectable vaccines. Our research focuses on characterizing immune responses in the lung following pneumonia infection, using various inactivated polybacterial preparations. This approach allows us to explore both trained immunity, a type of innate immune memory, and antigen-specific adaptive immunity.
