This project investigates how disrupting fungal stress-resistance systems can potentiate existing antifungal drugs. We focus on two stress-gated vulnerability nodes: (1) fungal regulated cell-death pathways (including apoptosis- and autophagy-like programs) whose activation can be pharmacologically triggered to amplify antifungal lethality, and (2) endogenous viral elements and mycoviruses that modulate stress tolerance, virulence, and drug susceptibility. By identifying stress-response effectors, death-pathway regulators, and virus-host interactions that buffer antifungal pressure, we aim to develop new adjuvant strategies that collapse fungal survival networks and restore or enhance antifungal efficacy.
