quantum materials quantum computers
The Physics of Quantum Materials research group at the University of Kent has 35 members (including 6 permanent faculty as well as postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students). The group leverages world-class expertise in Condensed Matter Physics to study properties of materials that could find application in future quantum technologies. We have a broad range of interests and expertise spanning theory and experiment. Topics include unconventional superconductors, topological matter, quantum magnets, machine learning and quantum computing. Expertise ranges from analytical (group theory, quantum field theory) through computational (both classical and quantum) to large facility experiments (neutrons, X-rays, muons) and low temperature techniques (15mK @ 50GPa). For more information please visit our website which has a full list of members, up to date publications information, news and more.
Much of our current research takes place at the fertile interface between condensed matter physics, machine learning and quantum computing. For instance, we have developed machine-learning approaches to neutron scattering and muon spin relaxation and actively pursuing quantum state tomography through neutron scattering. We are actively seeking project partners in this general area.
