The institute is well-established across all research fields related to manufacturing and automation, with extensive expertise in both software- and hardware-related research methods (see: https://www.faps.fau.de). In the context of quantum technologies, its work to date has focused on implementing quantum algorithms to address industrial optimization problems using a variety of quantum software frameworks (e.g., Qiskit, Dimod, ...) and hardware platforms (IBM, DWave, Fujitsu, ...) . The approaches included pure quantum, hybrid, classical, and quantum-inspired algorithms (see: https://www.taqo-pam.de). Special emphasis is placed on developing interfaces that integrate quantum solutions into tools familiar to engineers, thus enhancing the usability of quantum technologies especially for real world manufacturing challenges. Initial studies have also been conducted on the use of quantum machine learning for visual quality control. The institute benefits from close ties to the manufacturing sector, supported by an extensive equipment park and strong industry partnerships. This close collaboration is especially valuable for developing real-world applications and identifying advantages for quantum technologies.
Interested in projects focusing on the established research fields but also planning on expanding its research into all fields of applied quantum technology, like quantum machine learning, molecule simulation or the application of quantum sensors and quantum communication methods for problems in the manufacturing domain.
