FIIRV is a nonprofit foundation established in 2007 to promote and develop discovery research projects. Assets include a large, diversified collection of 18,800 microbial strains, a collection of 39,000 microbial extracts, and a chemical library of 9.500 pure compounds. Facilities comprise microorganism isolation/cultivation laboratories and fermentation/downstream equipment from flask level to a pilot plant up to 200-lt fermenters. Lab-scale equipment for extraction, purification and analytical chemistry lab for structural characterization of molecules with HPLC/MS-MS and fraction collectors. Microbiology, cell and biochemistry laboratories are specialized in HTS, determination of antimicrobial properties and toxicity studies.
Medicinal chemistry programs, optimization by semi-synthesis or chemical modifications of FIIRV novel natural compounds exhibiting promising antimicrobial properties.
