HERA

 The HERA JRP PS wants to mobilize the wide range of multi-disciplinary perspectives necessary to understanding the relationships between “public space”, culture and other phenomena, such as e.g. European integration, migration, globalisation, digitisation.

Proposals involving humanities-led research can be submitted by balanced consortia involving four or more Principal Investigators eligible to HERA JRP PS funders from four or more different countries. All research teams will be urged to include non-academic stakeholders as associate partners in their consortiums, such as: museums, NGOs, media. Each proposal can apply for research funding up to a maximum amount of 1 M€ (across all partners), should be between 24 and 36 months in duration and should commence by May 2019.

• In February 2018 shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit Full Proposals until 9 May 2018
• Call results: end of 2018
• Project start: January-May 2019

Information for Polish applicants:

1. On the full proposal stage Polish applicants must register their applications in the OSF submission system (UNISONO application). The application includes the following budget table: http://ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/UNISONO_budget_table.xlsx.
2. We strongly encourage all applicants to read information on eligible costs included in the Annex to NCN Council’s Resolution on funding granted within calls for proposals for international research projects (UNISONO, s. 5-12).
3. Projects including Polish teams may last 24 or 36 months.
4. If one international project includes partners from two different Polish Host Institutions, these institutions must apply as a consortium.  Each Host Institution comprising the consortium has a separate budget, but the limit on the remuneration, referred to in paragraph 2.1.2 of the above mentioned document, applies to the consortium as a whole (please see UNISONO, p. 8-9). Please note that Polish consortia have higher limits on the remuneration.  
5. Budget of the Polish part of the research project in the OSF system should be given in PLN: 1 EUR= 4,4232 PLN.

The HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) Network is pleased to announce a new HERA Joint Research Programme (HERA JRP) on “Uses of the Past”. With up to €20 million available, the research programme will fund new and exciting humanities-centred projects involving researchers from four or more countries.

Funding is available for research projects addressing the theme of “Uses of the Past” that involve at least four researchers from four different eligible countries. The application process will be in two stages.

The draft timetable for applications is:

• Outline Proposals to be submitted 9 April 2015, 19:00 Central European Time/18:00 Greenwich Mean Time
• Shortlisted applicants to submit Full Proposals in October 2015.

Polish applicants should also submit a short application via OSF system (UNISONO application).

Budget of the Polish part of the research project in the OSF system should be given in PLN. The Euro exchange rate should be calculated according to the NCN Council’s Resolutions no 7/2013 and 21/2014 (1 EUR= 4,2277 PLN).

The concept of Cultural Encounters is highly pertinent to contemporary European life: the ongoing process of European identity making is, at its most fundamental level, the result of various forms of cultural transformation and synthesis. These processes have arisen from or are influenced by a myriad of actors, including translation of cultural expressions, intellectual exchange, ideological context, technological change, economic development, trade, war, occupation and reunification. The effects of cultural encounters impact all the way from everyday activities to the broader arenas of ideology and societal institutions.

The potential focus areas include:

1. Cultural Encounters over time
2. Social and political influences in relation to Cultural Encounters
3. Practices of Translation, Interpretation, and Mediatisation, in relation to Cultural Encounters

Research team: composed of research teams from at least 3 countries participating in the call
