NCN Director participates in High Level Workshop: Realising the European Research Area

On the 20^th and 21^st February a high-level workshop on ERA was organised in Brussels. The event gathered more than 70 people representing Science Europe member organisations, as well as national ministries, the European Commission and ERA stakeholder partner organisations. Poland was represented by the NCN director Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk and  vice-minister Prof. Jacek Guliński.

During the meeting participants focused on several topics particularly important for the development of ERA, such as research excellence, cross-border collaboration and open access to publications. The discussion regarding Open Access concentrated on the issue of how ‘gold’ open access may be reimbursed. The NCN director Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk, suggested that the costs of implementing it should be thoroughly calculated by the Commission. Professor Jajszczyk also emphasized that Poland is fully committed to supporting international cooperation and developing mechanisms to foster this collaboration.
